The church of Sant Domènec will host, of the 12 al 15 July, four concerts: chamber music, vocal repertoire, a great symphonic work and a tribute to Lluís Llach, with the Cosmos Quartet, Toni Marsol and Jordi Castellà, the Young National Orchestra of Catalonia and Carles Cases as protagonists.
The Cervera Chair returns to activity this summer with the celebration ofXLIV Cervera International Music Festival.
After last year's edition could not be held, the project is recovered thanks to the will of the Paeria to guarantee its continuity. This new stage materializes in a program focused exclusively on the International Music Festival.
For four days, Cervera will once again become the epicenter of classical music with four concerts that will bring together some of the most outstanding performers and formations on the Catalan musical scene.
The programming combines different formats and styles, from chamber music to the great symphonic repertoire, passing through the recital of song and piano and a proposal dedicated to the musical universe of Lluís Llach.
The Cosmos Quartet will inaugurate the Festival with “Died in Venice”
Sunday 12 July, them 20 hours, the Festival will open with the inaugural concert “Died in Venice”, by the Cosmos Quartet.
The training, integrated by Helena Satué and Bernat Prat, als violins, Lara Fernandez, to the viola, and Oriol Prat, to the cello, will offer a program made up of works by Joseph Haydn, Benjamin Britten and Raquel García Tomás.
Founded in Barcelona in 2014, The Cosmos Quartet has established itself as one of the most outstanding chamber ensembles today thanks to a career that has led it to perform in some of the main festivals and specialized auditoriums. The inaugural concert will allow you to listen to a repertoire that connects different periods and musical languages through one of the most emblematic formats of chamber music.
Toni Marsol and Jordi Castellà will present the recital “Between the sky and the tavern”
On Monday 13 July, also at 20 hours, it will be the turn of the singing and piano recital “Between the sky and the tavern”, performed by baritone Toni Marsol and pianist Jordi Castellà. Both musicians from Cervera.
The program proposes a journey through different styles of the vocal repertoire with works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gaetano Donizetti, Franz Schubert, Gabriel Fauré and Eduard Toldrà.
The combination of great European composers with one of the most representative names of Catalan song makes it possible to offer a concert that highlights the richness and diversity of the repertoire for voice and piano.
The National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia will perform Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony
The third day of the Festival, on tuesday 14 July, will be performed by the National Youth Orchestra of Catalonia (RING), directed by Manel Valdivieso.
The training will interpret “Gustav Mahler's 5th Symphony with the JONC”, one of the most emblematic works of the symphonic repertoire and considered one of the great milestones in the history of orchestral music.
This concert will allow the public to enjoy one of the most prestigious young formations in the country facing a score of great artistic demand, known as much for its expressive force as for the richness of its orchestral colors.
Carles Cases will close the Festival with a tribute to Lluís Llach
Wednesday 15 July, the Festival will close with “Carles Cases says Llach”, a proposal dedicated to the musical universe of the singer-songwriter of Verges.
As defined by the show itself, will be “a journey through the universe of the songs of the Verges singer-songwriter, based on an exciting proposal to discover the usual topics, from an intimate and personal perspective of the pianist and composer, Carles Cases”.
The closing concert will offer a personal look at some of Lluís Llach's most emblematic songs, reinterpreted from the musical sensitivity of Carles Cases.
The Festival recovers a reference appointment
With this edition, the Emili Pujol Cervera Chair recovers its activity and keeps alive a project that, over more than four decades, has turned Cervera into one of the main references of classical music in Catalonia. After last year's shutdown, the Festival resumes activity with a proposal concentrated in four concerts that emphasize the artistic quality and diversity of the program.
All concerts will start at20 hours a l’church of Sant Domenec de Cervera. There will be bar service from 19 hours.
General tickets are priced at20 euros, while the ticket for the four concerts is60 euros. Members of the Associació d’Amics de Cervera have free entry to the first two concerts and for the concerts of 14 i 15 the price of the tickets will be10 euros.
