On Saturday 5 of September the 18th annual gathering of relatives of victims of the Civil War buried in the common grave took place, in a new act of remembrance and memory at the Cervera cemetery.
The event, open to the public, had the interventions of the father in chief, Jan Pomés; the director general of Democratic Memory of the Government of Catalonia, Xavier Menendez; the historian Jordi Oliva, promoter of the common grave recovery project; Julia Lago, Councilor of the Paeria de Cervera that year 2008 promoted the dignification of the space; and Rosa Papell, on behalf of the families of the victims.
Musical performances were interspersed between the parliaments, to the Conservatori student càrrec, and the reading of poems by relatives of victims buried in the mass grave.
Dignification of the Cervera mass grave
This year was the 18th meeting of relatives of the victims of the Civil War buried in the mass grave, a space that was dignified last year 2008 at the initiative of the Democratic Memorial of Catalonia and the Paeria de Cervera.
The dignification of the common grave in the Cervera cemetery is a national reference in terms of the recovery of historical memory.
The work of the historian Jordi Oliva has made it possible to identify the people buried in the pit: victims of the Civil War on both sides, prisoners, refugees, prisoners of the Concabella labor camp and the Francoist concentration camp of Cervera, civilians...
A file is found in the graveyard (417 tokens) with the names of the people buried in the pit.
The book has also emerged from the initiative“Unearth the oblivion. Memories beyond the dignification of the Cervera mass grave" (Editorial Fonoll, 2020). This is a project proposed by Paquita Buron (Cerdanyola del Vallès, 1938-2021), daughter of one of the victims, and coordinated by the promoters of the meetings Josep "Pepón" Miret (Cervera,1962 – Vic, 2020), Jordi Oliva (silk, 1965) and Rosa Papell (Taradell, 1963).
