After last year's impasse, in which the Easter Festival had to make its way streaming due to the pandemic, this year it has been possible to return to the presence and the public has responded in a totally positive way.

Both morning concerts, like the rest of the parallel activity·leles, have recorded a very high occupancy of the available space and adapted to the regulations to combat Covid 19. But it has been the evening concerts, with a higher capacity, those who have registered fully sold out tickets in four of the five scheduled sessions, achieving absolute audience success.

Exactly, one of the concerts I had for days that had all the tickets already sold out, is what has put an end to this year’s edition. This is the performance of the Chamber Choir of the Palau de la Música directed by Xavier Puig. Precisely, this brewer was the founder of the contest and its director in its first editions.

The program of this last concert has included works by Clavé, Millet, Lively, Nicolau, Morera, Pujol, Serra, R. Lamote, Taltabull, Beyond the Vivancos. A trip to 150 years of Catalan choral music with a complete sample of the diversity and richness of our composers.

The Easter Festival, which has taken place from the 27 March 4 d'abril, it also offers a totally satisfactory balance according to the first impressions collected from the public, the high occupancy of the available capacities (and adapted to Covid regulations 19) and the good feelings of the performers and companies that have performed there.

Total, s’han programat 11 different musical productions that have materialized in 15 concerts spread over 6 days and in different spaces of the city such as the emblematic Auditorium, the Municipal Auditorium, the Church of St. Dominic or, even, the Paeria.

One of the novelties has been the premiere of the new artistic director, the violist and musicologist Jordi Armengol. His artistic direction has been to maintain the roots that make up the identity of the festival (the empowerment of Catalan classical music), but at the same time opening up to new multidisciplinary proposals, other musical genres and, above all, agglutinate parallel activities·them as documentary projections, annotated auditions or exhibitions and conferences during the days of the contest.

The beer festival has also been added to the commemorations of two essential anniversaries: the 125th of the birth of Robert Gerhard and the 50th of the death of Joan Manén, two of the most paradigmatic cases of ignorance we have of our most universal musicians. There was also a memorial for the Renaissance Quartet by Eduard Toldrà.

All the concerts and activities have been governed strictly following all the security and protection protocols activated as a result of the pandemic caused by Covid. 19.

The Easter Festival is organized by the Paeria de Cervera, and is a meeting point for the classical music sector in Catalonia, as well as a showcase of classical music made in Catalonia.
