During programming, between days 21 i 30 March, various works by the composer and cello will be performed·list Josep Valls i Royo, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of his death. The contest will also remember Ricard Lamote de Grignon on the 125th anniversary of his birth.
The Cervera Easter Festival, every year, honors prominent figures in the history of Catalan classical music. In this 14th edition, the beer festival will recognize Josep Valls i Royo and Ricard Lamote de Grignon.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the death of the composer and cellist·list, Josep Valls and Royo. He studied in Barcelona with Lluís Millet and Enric Morera. He 1924 moved to Paris, where he continued his composition studies at the Schola Cantorum with Albert Roussel and Vincent d'Indy, while making a living as a cello player·list. When the Second Republic was established, Josep Carner was appointed consul in Le Havre and offered Valls the position of vice-consul. During the Civil War he returned to Spain to fight alongside the Republicans. He 1939 returned to Le Havre, where he resided for the rest of his life dedicated to musical composition.
Several of his works will be performed during the Easter Festival programme. In this way, the most outstanding concert will obviously be the one that bears the name: "In memory of Josep Valls i Royo, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his death". Arnau Tomàs on cello and Mercè Hervada on piano, will perform the works "Complanta" and the "Sonata for cello and piano". It should be remembered that Arnau Tomàs is a member of the renowned Quartet Casals.
The National Youth Choir of Catalonia, directed by Mireia Barrera, they will interpret Valls' "Díptic de difunts" based on a poem by Salvador Espriu. And lastly, the pianist Albert Guinovart will recover the "Jovenivoles", a set of short pieces inspired by Catalan popular songs.
Another of the Catalan composers honored will be Ricard Lamote de Grignon, on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of his birth. Exactly, in the inaugural concert with Salvador Brotons and Julià Carbonell, you can listen to the "Three sonatas of P. Antoni Soler. In one of the parallel activities·festivals of the Festival, specifically, in the Concert - presentation of the book "La viola tenor Parramon", you can also listen to a work by Grignon. And the National Youth Choir of Catalonia will perform the works "L'Aire daurat. Five poems on interpretations of Chinese poetry by Marià Manent" and "Cobles a la Verge partera".
The Easter Festival, organized by the Town Council of Cervera, is a meeting point for the sector of classical music in Catalonia and a showcase of classical music in Catalonia.
